Hi Alex, firstly thanks for benig a part of the show, its a real great honour for the both of us to have you on.
Firstly, with your recent releases of Stalker EP and Tekfexious EP2 and even the Tom's Diner Release it is apparent that your style is going more towards a softer side of Tech Trance which could also be said about Kamui and Organ Donors.
Can you see this style becomming as big as the hard trance scene in Britain?
Hi guys
The ideas behind the tekfexious EPs were as much about trying out different production techniques than premeditating a new style to push or follow. So the tracks were a result of a load of misspent hours in the studio figuring out how to create certain vibes and then when the track were all sat on the desktop, thats when we decided to put them out as Tekfexious EP's. i wanted to separate them from the usual full on style we had created with the main KF print and then the ideas started flowing on doing follow up Tekfexious eps from other artists on the roster. So i suppose its just a natural progression to test new territories. I would have to say as much as i love the softer end of the hard dance sound i play like the minimal and tech influenced material, its always been about the hard and banging for me and my sets will always deliver that. So a mixture of both sounds will always be in my life. Toms diner is a real banger and i think that tune shows our tougher side creeping back in. It has an epic trance tinged break but the bridges and lead kick ins are top to toe in adrenaline and it really covered a range of DJs support which i'm over the moon about. I heard Eddie Halliwell played a mix of it on a Radio 1 appearance so fair play to him for that.
What have you been working on in the studio recently? should we expect a lot more of the techy stuff or will we be hearing your harder side again soon?
Studio wise this summer has gone a little bit tits up because iv been touring for pretty much 4 months. Iv covered USA, Australia, New Zealand, Cyprus, Spain, Holland, Poland, Estonia, Germany, Canada and of course all over the UK. So trying to squeeze in studio time here and there has been hard work. I get to make mash ups for my sets and maybe make a few beats and intros on the road too which is cool. Iv been living and basing myself from Cyprus over the past few months for the Kiddfectious weekly residency in Ayia Nappa. So i had about a week in July where i was back in UK for gigs, and i spent the whole time working on the new Alex Kidd & Kidd Kaos next collaboration track. We weren't actually together in the studio because of timing restraints so i got busy working on some hard tech dance style beats - deep subby bass-lines and piercing big room noises over the top.And now iv sent all the parts overt to Kris for him to add in some magic with the synth sounds and work on the arrangement a bit too. Then we will go over it together when i get back to the UK next week and tidy it all up in his studio. This will be a release for phil Yorks new I.H.D.S series and tour.
Kiddfectious World Tour 2010 is the second album released on the Kiddfectious label. How happy were you that Hardstyle Legend Danielle Mondello and his wife Express Viviana mixed the second CD?
Yeah its the 2nd in the series and i'm happy with the outcome. Next album will be in 2011 on the KF label so on this one i really wanted to make a big deal and get a big named respected artist to represent the guest CD. They did a fantastic job on the mix it has had great reactions and its nearly as good as mine and Kaos' disc Seriously though they are both great to work with and everyone should check out the Kiddfectious world Tour Anthem that Danielle Mondello produced for the tour. Its out now on trackitdown.net and the In2ition remix is out of this world.
Can we expect to see a collaboration with Danielle Mondello and Express Viviana any time soon?
who knows, i wont rule it out , and it would be an interesting result to say the least...
Are there any artists in the scene you havent yet but would like to collaborate with?
yeah there's a few, Scot project, ASYS, Isaac, Showtek, Endymion
Having lived a dj's dream in terms of achievements, what would you say has been the highlight of your career?
Its safe to say there has been a few different points along the way of this crazy journey so far where iv had to stop myself and scratch my head and think fuck, this is surreal. but for so many different reasons. Promoting the hugely successful Kiddstock festival events and standing there in the middle of a field realising where all the hard work had gone, it is an immense feeling. Winning awards for best DJ among others is an achievement that is full of good memories. Taking the Kiddfectious brand to dizzy heights and on a worldwide tour, various live performances at huge festivals and events and massive media coverage with Essential mixes and live performances with Radio 1 to more recently mixing the Mixmag cover CD. All these stand out to me as a career that iv been proud to be a part of. but i think the biggest highlight of it all is still to come and thats why i love being involved, only the other day i got a text off kutski saying, 'we cant ever stop doing this man, we have such a fucking laugh..."(i wont finish the end of the text lol)..
But my point is, having such close friends that i work alongside in the scene also gives me the real love and passion for making it happen.
What did it mean to you to become Goodgreef's first ever resident and Label Manager?
Back in the day becoming the main resident was a huge deal and this has led to me becoming the longest serving Goodgreef resident. For 10 years iv seen the whole brand and concept blow out of this world to become such a massive entity. Iv got so many fuckin' outrageous memories over the years from working with the goodgreef crew, too censored for this interview! But we have had an incredible ride so far. Here is to the next 10 years haha
Its no suprise that you have reached the status that you have within the hard dance scene due to your excellent technical mixing. Who would you
say were your biggest influences when you first started dj-ing?
Carl Cox mixtapes were heavily on rotation back in the day on my boom box. Alongside a lot of Jungle DJs like Micky Finn and Goldie. But influence wise is a tough one, i guess they inspired me but my musical tastes and styles is influenced from A MISH MASH off the varied and random music i heard when i was growing up. For a while i was into House, then Techno, then Drum n Bass, then trance, then Hard house and Hard Trance, then Hardstyle , then minimal .... so i have a love for the whole spectrum.
After being awarded The Biggest Party Animal two years running at the hard dance awards do you see yourself being able to keep up your high octane performances in the future?
It can be hard with all the travelling but iv been keeping myself in ok shape so i think i should get through the rest of this year at least
You have performaned at numerous tours in over 20 countries across every continent including Russia, Australia, Canada, USA and Europe. Is there any country or event that stands out for you?
Russia was kool, but my favourite country is Australia, it is like my 2nd home when i get there and i would love to live there for a year or so , but not just yet.
Kiddfectious has achieved an enormous amount in its two year existence, have you been suprised the its success?
Not so much surprised because its taken a lot of hard work from a lot of people, but i am pleased with how its developed, we have some amazing events, record label releases, artists and most importantly fans and loyal followers which is the main reason for doing all this in the first place
How happy are you with the on going success of Kidd Kaos?
yeah he is doing great, and to get him involved with the whole KF vibe and becoming close to him as a mate outside of the scene is cool because we feel like family now. His talent is still in its early days , he will become a massive success with his career and its fully deserved.
Is there any other up and comming dj's you see bright futures for?
My eyes are on In2ition and Argy , these boys stand out most for me right now
What track has been doing the busniess for you in the clubs recently?
Id have to say my mash up of Oasis Dont Look back in anger and Showteks Hardbeat Market. Absoloutley slams it!!
What can we expect from the Alex Kidd and Kiddfectious in the future?
im going to go and have a shower and some breakfast and then go figure that out! Look out for my debut artist album , who knows when but i think that will be next on the cards for me.
Thanks Alex and all the best for the future
