General discussion / Dj comp

Hey,

was having a think about desudo's recent dj comp and that it was agreed on styles other than hardstyle to make it a fresh idea and a bit different and i thought this idea might be something to think about. I hope ill be able to write this in a simple way that everyone will understand, if not sorry.

How about a DJ comp that all the entry's are at most 15 mins long.

The DJ's do not have a choice of their song selection.

Each DJ gets paired randomly with a non competitor of the site who will choose their choice of songs for mixing.

10 DJ's, needs 10 Non-competitors e.g.

The number of songs a DJ is given is 5.

Before the DJ's and Song Selectors get paired, the 'Song Selector's' must choose their songs and hand them into a member of the site not taking part as either a DJ or 'Song Selector' so they do not pick songs that they think will be easy for their DJ to mix.

After all song lists are collected they are then mailed to the Djs who get a weeks mixing time before they have to be handed into judges, they will then be scored just like desudo's comp and the winning team gets paid attention.

Dunno what everyone here will think but its just an idea i had tonight which i feel will test the djs skills on here. Feel free to completely mock the idea if it sounds completely stupid or input ideas to make it better!

I''m up for making a list of 5 tracks. Think it's a nice idea. Could even take it to a 30 min level of sets and make it 10 tracks or so

Yeah that could be a possibility dreos, just depends on what everyone else thinks too. Hopefully get more people on board!

So the DJ's need to purchase songs they maybe don't like?

I like the idea and would love to pick tracks for some1

Yeah, or we could work on something else, like i said its open to ideas.

But at the end of the day even though you dont like the tracks its all gonna contribute to your mixing skills in one way or another, i'd be quite happy to mix songs i dont like just for something fresh.

How about we get all the song selectors chosen first, they pick their TL's and they all get announced at a specific time in this topic. any dj's who want to take part pick a TL that is left..

Cheers man, i agree with picking the song selectors first and get them to pick their T/L's but i think djs should be assigned T/ls randomly so they dont just pick songs they know they can mix well, i love improv and i think this will test the djs skills on here of theri own improvisation techniques

true, people might not wanna buy the tracks in their given TL, but it would make the competition more fun. I'd be up for a challenge and mixing a random TL as long as the scores are only based on mixing skills

why not pick say 10 diffrent gernes then get 10 diffrent people to pick 10 diffrent tracklists in whatever gerne they have chosen from the 10 so that we dont end with 9 hardstyle sets and a dub step 1 or something lol

this sounds like a good way of doin it, and get the dj's to pick a genre they haven't had much experience in

Sounds like a sweet idea!

Is it any style or..? ..because it would be better if hardcore and hardstyle were "maybe" left out. 7 out of 10 Dj's from this site spin hardstyle or hardcore. Then again Your Song selector Could give say, 5 trance tracks to a Dj who spins ..say mostly hardcore

Nice Idea, but depends on the luck of DJ.
A guy that does house mixing will surely be able to do normally with trance and maybe techno, but a guy who does dubstep should have no pain to do drum and bass.
But still, nice idea. xP

great idea count me in but there is 1 problem yes... the dj's are indeed going to need to buy track that they dont like..

Maybe make the list makers send copies of tracks to the DJ that chose their tracklist?
And like no only-vinyl tracks.
